A World Without Privacy

For a Uni project, I was given the task of creating an object based on the prompt, 'A World Without...' and a choice from a selection of materials or societal concepts. I chose the word 'Privacy' as I wanted to make a commentary on the concerns many have on the current climate of data protection in the UK. This project was curated during the proposal of the Digital ID, and I wanted to produce something which could be used in a dystopian future where Digital IDs have gone too far.

I wanted my design to feel oppressive in nature, I felt like having the device worn on the head is very demeaning. It can resemble a collar or dog tag, which is already quite dehumanising. And then having it around something so unique and personal to an individual, the face, forces a sense of conformity and loss of identity. This represents the attitude the government has towards its people in its dystopian future, how it sees them as numbers and data rather than living, autonomous individuals.
